How To Root Sony Xperia S


Just like any other Android smartphone, we have to root the device to avail more features in the Smartphone. After rooting, you can install Custom ROMs, Mods, Tweaks, etc. In this article, I'll guide you on how to root Sony Xperia S. But, before that please read the disclaimer and prerequisites for your safety only.

Specs Sony Xperia S:
  • 4.3-inch HD display (Resolution:1280 x 720)
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM
  • 12 megapixel camera and 1080p video recording
  • 1.3 megapixel front camera with 720p@30 fps
  • 32GB internal memory
  • HDMI port

Pre-requisites:
  • Your phone needs to have an Unlocked Bootloader.
  • To unlock your phone’s bootloader visit: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
  • Please make sure that there is a minimum of 60% charge in your phone.
  • Enable USB debugging on your phone by going to Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging where the USB Debugging option should be ticked.
  • Make sure that you have the appropriate Xperia S drivers installed on your PC.
  • Installing a custom ROM will wipe all the data like SMS,Contacts,Music,Videos,Apps present in your phone.

Procedure to root your Sony Xperia S:
  1. Download the appropriate rooting package based on your firmware version.
    2. Now place the above downloaded image in the fastboot folder that you downloaded while unlocking your bootloader.

    3. Now turn OFF your phone and again switch it ON by pressing Volume UP button while inserting the USB cable which is connected to your PC.
    4. Open command prompt on your PC and navigate to the fastboot folder where you placed the firmware image and type in the following commands based on the firmware version you downloaded:
fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_63fw.img
OR
fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_67fw.img
    5. Reboot your phone once the rooting process completes.

    6. You have now successfully rooted your phone!
